Planning an ancestry day in Ireland
What to gather before you travel, and what a day on the trail of your family looks like.
Start with what your family already knows: names, rough dates and the county or parish, if anyone remembers it.
Before you arrive we check parish records and census returns, so the day itself is about places, not paperwork.
On the day we visit the churches, graveyards and townlands we've found, and often meet local people who remember the family names.
